1/72 Clyde Puffer

Hi One & All
Back in 1997 I purchased two vacform hull for a 1/72 Clyde Puffer along with the drawings from Sarik (drawing MM1410), as we have been having some bad weather of late and due to their size they started to look like a good boat to start building in the house. (just to keep warm), over the last few weeks I have joined the two half’s of the hull, fitted the motor and shaft, alone with the deck, I have made a mistake when it comes to fixing the rudder, I should have made some form of fixing that went into the hull, so that the rudder had some were to fasten to, (will sort that out later on in the build) also I need to make some form of support for the shaft as I think it will in time work its way lose, moving on, the stern deck has been started and over half has now been planked.

Reply to Doogle

Doogle I use 2x.05mm timber from Cornwell Models, and .05mm thread for the clinkering, as for the puffer it is semi scratch build, other than the hull it is a case of what I had to hand at the time, I will be getting most of the fittings from Marks Model Bits

Deck & Rudder

Hi One & All
Now that things are sort of back to normal, I took a break from planking, and made the forward companionway and the rudder.
Looking at the photos I now think I need to get a new camera.
Just a quick note if any one is thinking of going to the Harry Potter world, I think it is worth every Penney.

Planking Finished

Hi One & All
I have now finished the planking, so moving on I have had a look at a stem winch, looking at it I feel the the time for me to make one that looks right it would be cheaper to buy one, I have found one on Amazon, it is a Langley Models Marine Steam Winch at a cost of £19.21 at a scale of OO.

Puffer winch

Hi One & All
now that most of the Christmas preparations are done, I had a go at weathering the winch on the puffer, all I did was spray some water onto the winch then laid some fine steel wool onto it. in time I will put some mat varnish on to it.

Wheel House & Funnel

Hi One & All
Now that that Christmas thing is past us now, it’s back to the puffer.
I have done some work on the wheelhouse, put duck boards down so the skipper will have warm and dry feet, used wood veneer inside and out, marked the outside to look like planking, will cap the top of the wheelhouse when all the other parts have been fitted.
I then moved onto making the funnel, I had the idea that I could make this from some sheet roiled into a tube, I cut some sheet into the size that I needed rolled it around a pen the poured hot water over the sheet, outcome it did not work for me, so back to old school brown paper and string (LOL) I rolled the paper into the size that I needed and fixed the ends with super glue, I all so used brown paper for the funnel rings, I think it will look O.K in the end.

Wheelhouse & Funnel (more)

Hi One & All
So nine days ago I started on the making of the funnel, well the brown paper worked better than the rolled sheet, I also had a go at making rivets with PVA glue, yes I do think that they are over scale, but I think it gives the funnel some character and yes they will not be seen when it's on the water, in the end the funnel will be Red top with the rest being Black.
I was going to do the wheelhouse in a cream as that was the colour I had to hand, when looking through my stock I found two tins of Beige, so that will now be the wheelhouse colour.
I have also fixed the rudder servo in place, one thing I do not like is having to run the control rod over the deck, and last I glued on the noworking freeing ports
